Dear DrZing ... 'LORATIDINE IS A 1980 DRUG WHICH IS LOSING FLAVOUR WORLDOVER.BETTER ANTIHISTAMINICS ARE REPLACING THIS DRUG.' 1) By NO Means Loratidine is losing flavour worldwide... Even in India.. its having significant sales... (you may check on 1mg ) .... For USA ... Please Read more on Wikipedia... Loratadine was patented in 1980 and came to market in 1988.[6] It is on the WHO List of Essential Medicines.[7] Loratadine is available as a generic medication.[3] In the United States, it is available over the counter.[3] In 2018, it was the 76th most commonly prescribed medication in the United States, with more than 10 million prescriptions.[8][9] 2) If you are comparing it with Fexofenadine (Allegra), then its the cost and COMMISSION on that ....which makes physicians prescribe it. 3) If you are comparing it with cetirize or Levo-cetirizine then they are CHEAPER Alternatives and even less sedative than it ... That I agree and these are very popular. 4) But If you think that NEWER Antihistaminics can REPLACE this drug... then Believe me, DOCs can Replace any Drug or Brand for Higher Commissions... 5) Also, As I said earlier, Anti-histaminics do NOT get Outdated ... is 100% True Be it Anti-Allergic, Anti-Itching, Cough suppressant or even as Sedative ... AH use will continue... 6) the 1st generation AH... like pheniramine, cpm, hydroxyzine, Cyproheptadine etc are too commonly used especially for their Side-effects like SEDATION and Anti-cholinergic effects. In cases of Serious Allergic conditions where 2nd generation AH are much less effective....these 1st generation AH are used as 2nd line drugs as they have much Stronger Anti-Histaminic Effect though they have More Side-effects like sedation and Anti-Ch effects as I already said. Anyway, coming back to LORATIDINE... 10 Million Prescription and possibly much more OTC sales in USA are Sizeable... with 90% Market share... I think Morepen has done a wonderful job. So, please get your FACTS RIght. Thanks ( 20 days ago )
